European Tree Frog

The European tree frog is a small frog, the only of its kind (i.e. more precisely, the only representative of the Hylidae family – tree frogs and their allies) in the Czech Republic. It is found in humid environments, where it feeds on invertebrates and tadpoles, but also insects and spiders found in the foliage of trees. The tree frog’s body grows to a diminutive size of only 5 cm, and is of highly variegated colour. Its skin pigments respond to different temperatures and levels of humidity, and the frog thus changes colours, from a light to dark green, to yellow-tinged, grey, or even brownish. The tree frog is a critically endangered animal species in the Czech Republic, and as such is strictly protected under the law.
