Noble Crayfish
is present in the whole CZ in stagnant and slowly flowing waters. It is very sensitive to the quality of water, which is why it serves as an environment quality indicator. It has a relatively massive body of medium to dark brown colour and large, from the bottom red to red-orange claws. It hunts various water animals, but also eats dead bodies of animals and plants. Crayfish reproduce in the autumn. Its lifespan is approximately 20 years. The current status of noble crayfish population is significantly affected by water pollution and also crayfish plague. Noble crayfish together with another original species of our crayfish, stone crayfish, are critically endangered species of our fauna.
