European Honey Buzzard

is a medium size bird of prey of the accipitridae family. It grows a little bigger than a buzzard, the wingspan is 135 – 150 cm. The colouring varies, but usually it has brown back, spotted chest and grey head. When flying, white stripes are visible on the bottom side of the wings. In spite of the name suggesting bees, the honey buzzard lives mostly on wasps and hornets, which are more important in its nourishment compound than bees. It nests high in the trees. In the Czech Republic, it is an endangered species, which is why it is strictly protected.
