European Silver Fir

this tall, robust coniferous tree with pyramidal or cylindrical treetop grows up to 65 m. The tree bark is mostly light-grey, darker with age. Needles measure 2 – 3 cm, they are flat, on the upper side shiny dark green, on the underside with two shiny stripes (stomas). European silver fir cones grow erect and reach the size of up to 20 cm. The plant as such is very demanding in terms of humidity and sensitive to late frosts. It is also very sensitive to polluted environment. In the industry its wood is used for water constructions – boats, weirs etc.
