Scotch Argus
A smaller butterfly with inconspicuous wings colored in shades of brown, ochre, or red-brown with eye spots from which its Czech name (“eye bearer”) is derived, the antennae are subtle and short, ending in clubs. The pair of front legs is entirely non-functional and tucked away under the butterfly’s body. The species can be found on dry, warm, shrubby slopes and on the edge of open forests in rolling uplands.
