Common Crane
A conspicuous large bird, about 120 cm high, of predominantly grey colour. The head is black, with a lateral white streak and a red spot on the almost bare crown. In flight, it is reminiscent of a stork with its elongated neck, though it is quite a bit larger with its wingspan of 2 - 2.5 m. For building its nest, it seeks out peat bogs and reed marshes near lakes, ponds and rivers in forested areas.
