Brook Lamprey

Lampreys are living fossils, having first appeared in the Palaeozoic era. They are found exclusively in freshwater, where they feed primarily on detritus, diatoms, algae and plant particles. Two sub-species live in our waters today: the brook lamprey itself, and the Ukrainian brook lamprey.
