Above the River

The "Nad řekou" site (Above the River) plays a crucial role among the activities of the Bečov botanical garden, as it allows for the presentation and exploration of natural forest cover in the Teplá River Valley, historical orchards, and xerothermic grassland on terraced fields formerly cultivated by smallholdings. The proximity of the Teplá River offers the opportunity to also explore the Natura 2000 site "Teplá and its tributaries and the Otročínský potok". Visitors reach the site by following a panoramic trail that starts in the town centre of Bečov nad Teplou and leads to the ridge of the Bečov Valley - the newly established Bečovsko Rural Monument Reserve. Those who walk all the way are rewarded by the stunning view offered by the (refurbished) scenic overlook on a rocky promontory above the Teplá Canyon.

Three info panels contain interesting facts about the history and nature of the Bečov Valley, the traces of many generations of human activity in the area, and the way in which they cultivated and used the land. The site is also accessible coming from the Bečov botanical garden (which, however, charges a fee).
