Fragrant Orchid
This bulbous perennial of medium height, whose inflorescence is composed of (usually reddish) florets, used to be relatively common in the past, but has nonetheless become an endangered plant. In the Czech Republic, scattered-to-rare populations are found across all elevations. The fragrant orchid thrives in two types of locations, which are ecologically distinct. The first type of biotope are meadows, pastures, shrubby hillsides, or the edges of leafy forests, mostly in the lowlands and foothills. The second type of preferred environment are high-growing floodplain grasslands found in cirques. The fragrant orchid flowers from May through July. It propagates through pods.
