European Elder
is a broad-leaved shrub growing to up 10 meters tall. It usually grows in damp forest clearings, rocky locations and ravines. It can be encountered in the country as well as in the gardens. It has a wide use in natural healing, pharmacy and food industry. Its fresh berries are slightly poisonous, however, this property is eliminated by drying. Blossoms, leaves as well as the bark are collected. A glass of elder juice helps against cold, influenza, febrile conditions and rheumatism. Hot tea made of elder blossoms has sudorific effect.
