Elder-flowered Orchid

A rather diminutive species, it grows to heights of 10 to 25 cm. In the Czech Republic, it is found primarily in the Carpathian Foothills in eastern Moravia, although rare-to-scattered stands can also be found elsewhere. The elder-flowered orchid grows in meadows, in sparse deciduous forests, and in well-drained montane meadows. During the blossoming period in April and May, the orchid is adorned with medium-sized flowers of pale-yellow or dark-ruby colour. Its fruit is a cylindrical, green pod containing copious amounts of seeds.
