Eurasian Sparrowhawk
A small bird of prey from the family Accipitridae, with short, broad wings and a long tail that allows for fast maneuvering in thick woods. The female is noticeably larger than the male, and can weigh up to twice as much. Males grow 29–34 cm long with a wingspan of 58–65 cm; females are 35–41 cm long and their wingspan is up to 67–80 cm. Males weigh 105–196 g, and females 185–350 g. The male has slate-grey upperparts and wings, a russet face and breast, and white, russet-barred underparts. The female has brownish-grey-barred underparts and usually lacks the reddish coloration on the cheeks and breast (which may nonetheless sometimes also present a little in females). The juvenile is warm brown above, with rusty fringes on the "upper-arm" plumage. The barring on its underparts is coarser, and often spotted and irregular on the breast. The beak of the sparrowhawk is grey with a yellow cere; its legs are yellow, and its irides are dark yellow to orange.
