Black-Necked Grebe

this small grebe has a relatively short body, robust head with slim bill and upwards turned lower jaw. In the summer it is unmistakable due to its rich coloration - it has red-brown sides, black neck and head with yellow ear tufts. In the winter it is greyish with black top of the head. Eared grebe seeks stagnate water expenses overgrown with vegetation. It can dive and swim excellently. It primarily feeds on water animals - it observes calm water surface and as soon as it spots a potential prey, it instantly dives for it. In the CZ it belongs among endangered species.
