Grass Snake

this species of non-poisonous snake is the most common snake species in the CZ. It has a long body comprising of 19 rows of scales, reaching the length of up to 120 cm. The body colour varies – principally it has green or brown colour with yellow or orange collars behind the head. Grass snake usually occurs in the vicinity of water, feeds on amphibians, fish, lizards and insects. In the summer it lays leathery-skinned eggs, it spends the winter period hibernating. Grass snake is an exceptionally fast snake – being able to crawl at up to 6.7 km/h.
