Globe Orchid

This greyish-green plant reaches heights of 30-70 cm. Its flowers are of light pink colour, with darker, purple spots. Its fruit is a pod containing substantial quantities of diminutive seeds. In the Czech Republic, the species occurs in scattered-to-rare populations in the eastern (Carpathian) part of Moravia. The globe orchid mostly grows in meadows, blossoming high-lying floodplains, and headwater meadows. It prefers rather humid grassland formations that are rich in nutrients. This orchid flowers from May through July and is pollinated by insects. It survives harsh periods in the form of underground tubers.
