Early Star-of-Bethlehem

A very slight, but high-rising bulb plant, its petals are yellow, with a greenish tint on the outside, and often lined with a reddish-brown stripe. The bohemica subspecies of Early Star-of-Bethlehem is endemic to Central Europe and grows on stony steppes, sunny slopes, and rock outcrops. One finds it in the warmest regions of the Czech Republic. It requires acidic to neutral soils, and grows only where the bedrock gives way to shallow, fast-heating soils with not too much grassy turf.
