Northern Goshawk

A medium-large bird of prey whose body can be up to 64 cm long, especially in females, which are significantly bigger than males. The wingspan is 90 – 130 cm, the wings are rounded to enable flying between trees. In the wild, it can be mistaken for the Eurasian (or Northern) Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus). It lives concealed in dense forests, which is why it is difficult to be spotted. It feeds on smaller bird species or on small mammals. Its natural enemy is the buzzard or the eagle owl. The Northern Goshawk is an endangered species and therefore strictly protected.
