Lesser Horseshoe Bat

is a globally endangered bat species. Karst caves served as the original shelters of horseshoe bat, however, since the middle ages it started to utilise lofts of buildings, especially castles and churches. For wintering it uses areas with minimum air circulation, with temperature of 6 to 9 °C and almost 100% humidity. When wintering, it completely wraps into its patagium and reminds a pear with its shape. The main part of lesser horseshoe bat consists of night butterflies. Its maximum age ascertained in the Czech Republic is 26 years.
